Dover to our chair mr. Miller superintendent Malay and I'll call this meeting to order at 6:08 first item on the agenda is approval of the minutes we have the public minutes from our last meeting as well as the non-public minutes so I will entertain a motion to approve the public minutes motion to approve public minutes okay the Motions in made and seconded are there any comments or questions about the public minutes hearing none Jen can we call the roll on that please mr. Bemis mr. Philip Vera mr. Miller thank you next is emotion and I will entertain for approval of the non-public minutes motion to approve okay mushrooms are made in second at any questions or, the non-public minutes okay hearing on the can we call the roll please thank you next item bills and manifest we also need a motion to approve the bills and manifest motion to approve take me to transfer thank you and Ruth must have been made and seconded any discussion on the field and manifests as previously circulated no great Jennifer mr. Bemis mr. Miller thank you okay so the next item on the agenda is the business manager report at in advance of Scott speaking us I don't want to thank you for sending out in advance summary of the info of the financial information of a you still be able to read through it and you got a bit of an explanation which may have the additional benefit of shortening this session it may have been may have the result of blank and I don't know let's see let's see how it goes albertio Jeff did you want before we open discussion have a first and second to accept it oh I forgot we need to accept Scott I will move to accept Scott's Business Report mermaid and second do we need to call the real yes or no first oh oh okay thank you I don't guess. Thank you sir so this month has been no major changes in revenues everything is continuing on the path Jackson there have been significant changes in the expenses that again as a night I highlighted in that email to the board so I will go over starting with regular instruction I'm projecting a $121,947 surplus and will the salary and benefits lines for regular instruction we've had numerous new positions get regular instruction in with that a lot of changes mostly in benefits elections show a $80,000 decrease projected the benefits of alone I'm in $30,000 less than salary than projected the other factor in all of this is that last year's guaranteed Max rate for health insurance was 4.6% is an actual increase of only .8% which shows significant savings salary benefit lines High School enrollments for regular Ed or special ed special instruction Lodge 3000 discovered that we had a tuition for out-of-district placement that was through in a different account number than it was budgeted so that it showed up is the deficit however it's only two over what was budgeted so making that correction and the $36,000 projected deficit benefits we went from an ATM thousand dollar projected deficit to 43000 a salary and benefits deficit and special instruction is due to having to hire an unplanned individual we have seen the small Surplus develop and guidance services and again that is directly related to the JAMA we have significant Surplus showing in Psychological Services at this time because that position is not filled on so that money is uncovered unencumbered at this time we have a speech services deficit rejected a $53,000 portion of that is a benefits election change and a larger portion of that which is $47,000 is the contracted services that were not free muesli budgeted for nearest thousand dollar deficit and OT message because we increase that position to 40% this year due to increased need Media Services is stalling a $3,200 Surplus and that is a partial of that is actually just the gmr we're showing 60 $600 projected Surplus and school administrative services and that is just a benefit election change Building Services we are seeing $9,000 projected service Surplus and that is a benefit election change and the gmr's well the nothing has changed in the info management technology it still showing a $21,000 however that will be rectified in next month's financial report as I delved into the the cause of that and some of the items that were purchased through the leaf defeat all listed the general fund account instead of the lease that we took out for technology so we just going to change that in the system without that correction being made we are currently projecting a 98800 $64 Surplus Scott two things can you arrange for that kind of a swing to happen every month in the positive direction second while you're contemplating how to do that can anyone I love you connect to this guy cuz it's more I think about it Staffing a situational issue address the Outlook as a year goes on for how we might bring the speech services number back into some kind of alignment I can explain that one and I apologize for being late my computer would not let me in so I ran and got another computer and instantly got in the speech services the reason of bats kilter is we had to fill the maternity leave position and we weren't able to do that so we had to go to contract and services to fill that leave that will not increase anymore is that has come to an end well. Oh great but better than better than better than my defense thank you any other questions for Scott as we get into the boards budget session we will be looking at next year's salary and benefits and what we have to do is the insurer gives us an estimated increase based on our actual usage we can't tell you what the increase in your premiums will be next year but we will guarantee that it will not be over ex percentage that doesn't mean it's going to be that number they can be lower but they guarantee will not be over so we use that for Budget purposes so if there is any change it's always in the positive direction any other questions for mr. Lube borrow Savannah speech services that $53,000 in the negative that's not going to go up that is $53,000 over budget to the as of November 16th correct that will not be increasing what are we made up for by the monthly budget from here to the end of the school year is that or is that he made up for that will stand but it won't be in when we won't be using those consult Services they'll be a small increase just for the ones that have come in since this report was done but it won't be increasing any further will be done with the contracted services so fair to say pretty expensive contracted services and we did search to make sure that we got the best rate and the rate that we got was the standard rate from all different agencies we did have doctor Maddie and special ed helping us do the search and we did get the best we could get thank you thanks for the questions answered cuz I don't have anymore so we've had the motion II so we should not vote to accept the business managers report Jennifer mr. Bemis mr. Miller thank you next on the agenda and Robin you're not late cuz you're in time for this is the principal's report Scott I'm terribly sorry yes you're clear correct my mistake we still obtain tuition and the gmr insurance go ahead Salvage EMR insurance rate that we will be blood sitting for next year is 6.1% Keene Middle School tuition for next year will be $11,979 regular at $2 I should be higher I know you don't have middle school but I'm just telling you what they are King Middle School specialty 28906 760 the King High School Sharon Wright went down from $14,581 to 14511 and Keene high school special ed went down from $31,020 to $29,955 as far as I was concerned they all went down and I just I'm sorry I know I joke about this but what is the Keene Middle School regular tuition and the special 30760 you're welcome got you covered every yes I have Jeff thank you hate to be wrong more than five or six times during a meeting and I'm already closed okay alright Robin you can see from the enrollment chart we are be much the same we go up in one class by 1 and we go down in the class by one we have had some increases and a couple of our classes do to children going from remote to in person so we have to monitor that too well right now will coming all remotes but in the future when we come back we need to monitor that as far as size and making sure that we're staying within those guidelines but I did highlight your ID so that you can see the differences and which classes had I just threw out the past month our goals for this year Behavior reading and social emotional we have had only one meeting since I last board meeting and we have pretty much cut those goals all hammered out and we're working on action plan and the reading committee is putting together a lot of that data that will have for you next month regarding the SAS and the aimsweb testing we just wrapped up all of that testing last Friday with a couple more she'll even finishing up today call stragglers who work in for testing and we have to find X to get them tested individually so that's why we were not ready to give you that data today because in just finishing up on Friday that didn't give us the time to pull it all together in a meaningful way to a present that induce a Randstad compliance with universal plan we are doing much better the daily screener we are averaging all of our families now we have an occasional one or two that may forget and a quick phone call or quick conversation with Middle School child got a quick phone call for the younger ones and it's done so we're we're very happy with our families that there truly complying and getting that taken at screen or seriously The Masks we're still working on some of those Middle School we're doing much better we have myself as well as a few others who were going in and out and just doing spot checks in the classrooms to help the teachers reinforce the importance of wearing those masks and we're getting there we definitely are our making strides forward our Behavior update it is our Behavior as far as the percentage of students from Lab from September to October it definitely has gone up it is increased however so did the number of we were in school and proportionately if you take the number of days are in school in September and October it's pretty even we are working very hard to get those individual Behavior plans done for for students they behaviorist interventionist that you so wonderfully allowed us to hire this year is working out quite well she's going into classes as well as meeting with individual students and we do anticipate our data getting better when we come back in we have a plan for how the behavior interventionist will support students while on remote so that support for both behavior and work completion will continue you had asked about attendance last month and we are fine being our attendance is data is very good the number of students absent is holding steady where it normally would be it's not down a little bit and we really think that possibly wearing the masks is helping in the spread of the common cold as well so and we're not seeing High absenteeism right now see I already spoke about the testing and that you will get those reports in December Amino education we're working on those schedules and putting together all of pieces that have to be put together we're also working to determine who is going to need a Chromebook and the community which which children do not have internet right now we think we're pretty close to only two families that don't have internet I will be working with those family to see what we can do there and we're working to determine how many Chromebooks we need to hand out to kids we did have a survey go out last week we may have to do another one tomorrow to be a little bit more specific because not everyone answer I think they got confused on what the question because not knowing they were remote so we need to send it out again tomorrow and it was very great that the families filled it out very quickly and will help me go to the same tomorrow thank you it will be good to see and I'm glad to hear that you're encouraged that we will see demonstrable results that measure our return on the investment in Behavior it will get a little wonky for a while the remote but once we're back in then we'll start again the that date of it will still collect the data on the remote behaviors and who's doing their work and who is it who may be disrupting a classroom we have procedures in place that we hope will support those students Andrew asper what does refusal mean when they're asked to do something in class and just say no not doing it other asked to leave the classroom and just sit there and say no Robin what's can you elaborate on the the issue with masks a little bit we're doing pretty well with a mass now for a while we were having issues with some of the middle schoolers just not wanting to wear them or not wearing them appropriately or saying I'm taking a drink well you're not really taking a drink for a whole 45-minute class. So it was with kids and families to get the kids to understand this is important and it's also not a choice it's going to be moved another week or so but I thought we were pretty adamant about 2 if you wear the mask you're not going to be there right and we have sent some kids home and we've called a lot of parents and that's what's helping to turn it around I think it's going to be particularly important over the next we can we are still there where the cases are going in this area so Andrew everything okay thank you Robin superintendent's report please twice a week so Rob I don't know if you have anything to add or not what has come in today from Health and Human Services their dashboards are back up and running so if you see all night on the screen absolutely entire state is in what Health and Human Services would classify a substantial with a rate of 275 cases 100000 remember we did go over the difference and I can show out real quick without going into a big diet right about it the Harvard Global Health metric this is the state of New Hampshire data just so you're aware our columns D&E and they are all that's actually not supposed to be red I apologize for that that was fix that right now they're right on the verge of going into the red after today's date of their 358 new cases that were reported today and my my account is a little bit different than theirs because I don't know where they pulled their population the from I pulled it from the US Census from 2019 and they might have updated data that I just have been unable to find so we're in the same ballpark there but you know not pinpoint exact hold true for the Harvard Global Health metric as well so that's borderline getting on to read at the moment and I think if we see another day like we did today I didn't actually like we have since last week Tuesday than in state as a whole going to the red in in the county Cheshire county still staying below that 25 per hundred thousand with a Harvard Global Health you know significantly below it I would say however we definitely gone above the 100 for the New Hampshire Health and Human Services one so and it we had 17 new in Cheshire county today that was reported today anyway find a unique that these two columns of hospitalization in the positivity rate stay in that green what they identify as their green measures couldn't report for these few days because their dashboard was down I was able extrapolate the data from other places to get the other calculations but I was not able to extrapolate that data for three days anyway while they're dashboard for a really that's the only new information you know I looked I look at some of the County's and and I say wow you know they're at 436 Miramax at 209 Hillsboro at 2:30 to Manchester wild come on get on to Manchester Manchester's at 373 Nashua is at 421 North of us there at 183 it's all around us numbers are increasing day by day which is what led to that decision last week on Friday it was that look coming our way we don't want an outbreak to happen in our schools we did state that our priority was for our students and our staff to be safe and you know just seeing this coming and seeing what is now being implemented more universally around the state has led us to a decision where we feel where I felt we needed to be so that's about the only update I can provide sir thank you Rob questions from a dealer Casper okay committee reports in this environment I know what committees are meeting but infrequently is all I can report on one which is the SIU advisory committee we had a review of compensation proposals for the SAU staff and a lot have all my numbers and data with me what I can sell my fellow board members is that the process that was used to develop those has consistently been highly professional and really on a caliber with what I've seen in sophisticated private-sector organizations so I'm it's been well done and we're certainly achieving I think the right balance between doing what is fair for staff and not spending any more than we should be spending really good really good discussion there any other committee updates we got a meeting of the facilities Justice custom upcoming Mr Blair will discuss with Scott about putting into the budget and how to pay for them nothing nothing huge repairs necessary repairs and how much you like me to go anything exciting the clocks the clocks have been a big issue I guess can we make them run slower Clawson Clawson telephones it's always good to have a clocks correct still probably get support for that well by X Disturbed 10 year maintenance-type items okay thank you any other comments or anyone on the committee's all right we are now going to move into Old business one item that we have on the agenda is the sexual harassment policy as you will recall we have us in the on the in the last month and there were some questions Andrew elaborated on those questions and comments and circulated his notes and they came in time but they came just Andrew this morning so I know that Rob has had a chance to look at them but I know Rob's only had a chance to look at them briefly so I asked Rob if he would the responses that he has gotten to those from his consultant on this or was he one of the essay use consultants and if those responses giving them out of time turn on this satisfactory weekend do one of two things weekend either invite you to talk with the New Hampshire School Board Association or we can ask for more detail from the outside people to work on this so I'll turn this over to you yeah a man do I want to say thank you for taking the time to go through this policy and a half those questions I did talk to one of the attorneys that we often work with who helped were the end of the School Board Association craft this policy and so I'm here where your first question was it talks about how how harassment is not considered if it's outside of the United States and that was that was the question you asked when I asked the attorney the response was this was taken this language was taken directly from Title 9 if you go back to the title of the policy so that it mirror the language inside inside of Title 9 and you have a SIM my question to this one later in the document it does not preclude schools and or districts from taking any action it just says that it does not meet the measure of title they did not regard so that was a change that came about toward the middle of summer in school districts were given a very short. Of time to contemplate those changes make sure they had policies that were in compliance there is speculation that come January this entire title Title Nine may be Revisited and some of these changes that we're actually seeing now maybe I'm done but the language itself came directly from the title it was not something that was crafted by lawyers here locally they just copy and pasted that language specifically so I don't I don't disagree with your comment so you know that sexual harassment 10 be considered outside of the United States but it does not meet the measure of Title Nine specific so that that was the response I got from the I'm going to try to find the next, but I've got to go to your document all right cuz I did travel outside the United States when I was a student for band and so if one of my children traveled outside the United States they were sexually harassed under this they are day 10 Orchid cannot bring a grievance to the MARTA to Decatur I forget to the title of the person that's in charge of taking care of sexual harassment it would not meet the measure for Title Nine but that does not mean that there was not an incident or or something that happened it just it is saying that it is not in alignment with the language in Title 9 Andrew that does not mean that nothing can be done no action can be taken it's just not meeting the measure for Title Nine and that's a change that was made at the federal level one way to look at this. Title Nine States what school districts are required to do and they can certainly go beyond and their houses put that charge in your Title Nine policy we can certainly have a separate policy from addressing an obviously bad even if it isn't covered by Title 9 was here about notifying dcyf that's really just an alignment with Marlborough School policy jof that's exactly the language out of our own a policy that says whenever there's a report of any type of abuse for any child notify dcyf in so that's why the language in our policy states and knots taken directly from our own policy so if we wanted to change that to include police Robin knows that anytime there's a report of abuse that she still needs to report it to the police but this is saying that we also need to notify dcyf so if we wanted to codify that we could absolutely absolutely do that but we would also want to look at changing jlf as well okay whoops wrong direction next one next one you had a question here sorry if I seemed a little crass I was rushing I appreciate it I'm glad you I'm glad you're glad you have the questions I think your question was about a student with an IEP and why there might be a level of difference for a student with an IEP is in compliance with the IEP or 504 my responses if they're sexually harassing or or Worse who cares if they have an IEP they need to be removed from the situation in my opinion the individuals in the IDE is individuals with disabilities Education Act and if that behavior is tied into that individual disability and has to be it has to follow a specific process to make sure that there is no manifest the behavior that is part of the person's disability they have a disabled civil rights that need to be contemplated and that's why that language was put into their you know what we might see it as cut-and-dry but sometimes you know it is tied to disability in not saying that makes it okay but additional measures that definitely need to be considered in those situations that when I think of an IEP or 504 I think of it as a less less not going to make sure I use this language it's not somebody who's severely disabled that I think of it as somebody with a learning disability yeah so I wouldn't that wouldn't to me let them off the hook for her terrible Behavior could very well be the case it depends on what the disability is and what is in the IEP as well so there are processes that we have to follow for students who have IEPs and 504s we can't just say how you did this and that's it. There are other civil rights that up that students with disabilities have protections on that way we think the book should be thrown at them or not is not in alignment with their civil rights that are afforded to them the next one with regard to the statute of limitations essentially this is was left open because there is no statute of limitations and even though it does state that the complaint it must be employed or participating in or attempting to participate in the education program if you continue to read further when formal complaints are submitted no no no I forget what I saw. When there's a complaint submitted we're obligated to investigate regardless of the statute of limitations because there really is no time limit okay so this is I think I started to bring this up in October the wording doesn't seem good to me you know I've got you here in the news or whatever about you know people not bringing cases for years and years and years because they're embarrassed of what happened to them and a student in 8th grade right now may be embarrassed until they're 25 or weather obviously not a student in Marlborough School anymore and it sounds to me like too bad you're not a student here anymore I may be reading it well if you look at this second sentence here that starts a dishion Ali and it states although the district will initiate the title 9 grievance process regardless of when the formal complaint is submitted image Estates at delays and Report May impair that ability to investigate an employee might move on Nino may may no longer be with the district are is complaint is received we will need to initiate an investigation you know there just might be limitations based on turnover in Personnel to so and then the last one, so I was the last one was saying similar to the first one dismissal where are you it's way down you were talking about items see here you know in the United States again Max language through from Title 9 but I would I really like is this bold statement on the bottom of item for that just because something might be dismissed under Title 9 does not mean that we cannot continue any investigation or take action through a different process other than Title Nine so I think that gives us the cover so and if you'd like you know I can ask the lawyer to join us next month if you want further clarification it'll be the same person that I spoke to earlier but I did want to reach out to them before the meeting tonight to see if that would at least answer your questions I appreciate the questions and it was really good to connect with that attorney well I had her on the line for a different reason. thank you very much for doing that the month of October and 1st Avenue Pembroke and it disappeared on me so I understand it's last minute so thank you for getting it done no worries Andrew with you would you like to push this out another month or are you comfortable voting on it tonight we have a house in place so it's not an have Jeff yes Rock rat look nevermind place to to suggest to sits on what committees but I just think that that review that you did on the policy would be really helpful for policy Committee in and I don't want to I don't want to put too much on anyone's played Andrew but I thought that that was very thorough and I thought you did a great job and so you've got a knack for and so something to think about in case we decide to reorganize the board committees just kudos to you and thank you that's in the realm of no good deed goes unpunished and Russo what song is perfect cuz that's what happens to all of us all the time okay new business so something I I think that's business but I'm happy to be corrected is that the board received a note from the Marlboro Education Association about a couple of things that included an extended closure following the Thanksgiving holiday two delayed opening after the December holidays to having a couple of days to prepare for the the recent decision to move the school to fully remote I did send them a note today that said in light of the decision that came out Friday night that I thought we were okay on all of those issues and I received a response that I read just before this meeting about 5:40 there is still an interest in discussing the possibility of having some time to prepare to go fully remote as my fellow board members know Marlboro was unique in starting the year fully on site and so the extra preparation and planning days that everyone had in before school opens this year were spent by the Marlboro. figuring out how to accommodate the full population on site when school started and now we're going fully remote and there if I'm resetting this device famous correctly the teachers in the stamp want to make sure that they have equipped the students appropriately and have their plans in place to seamlessly start after the Monday after Thanksgiving the Marlborough model will be switching by 100% so our choice in this in this regard is to in regard to the timer prepare for this the time the number for car would come out of the normal school schedule and so what I'd like to do is I'd like to invite if it's okay with my fellow board members a representative of the Marlborough Education Association in this is not free plans there's no one who wants to talk about this wheels will manage it ourselves but I'd love to hear from the teachers without hearing from all of them because we're sent it to the time and we don't normally want to spend a ton of it meeting in this kind of forum but just to confirm that I have first stated those perceptions and fact accurately and also to gain an appreciation for all the board members how one might accomplish this necessary planning with the least possible disruption to students and their families before we go fully remote so if you can read into that I hope that we do not need to find two full days to do this if it all possible that sound reasonable to you Mark and Casper and Andrew okay is there someone who'd like to try represent thinking are you saying goodbye Stacy are you saying no are you saying yes on so we had because we bullion on sites for 5 days a week we did took those three days the beginning of the year that you had mentioned in your letter and use those to plan our on-site inspection as well as prepare our classrooms for the 19th teachers and protocols that were in the Universal procedure manual that came out so we didn't have those three days to plan any kind of remote instruction so I think that was a little bit of a missed miscarriage maybe pop so we used being fully in place for 5 days a week we don't have any extra time to do any planning other than what we're doing for our classroom I know the other schools who are doing hybrid have that Wednesday or they're doing their collab meetings and they're doing they were doing Cloud meetings at least I'm doing other things where they were doing more planning for remote instruction but we've missed out on that my last the last response we sent back to you we had a suggestion of perhaps maybe doing two half days so we could still count the days 4 days of school and allow the staff time to make copies for those kids kiddos who aren't going to have the remote capabilities and we have one actually two two copiers the one in the office to let you know give me made for these kiddos is also a lot of copy that needs to be made for a kiddos who are remote to so just to get the supplies ready for them so that we can ensure that they have all the tools that they need to make sure the successful going remote just make sure that our plans are set up on Google Classroom so that is so seamless transition so weird asking for some time for that don't answer or help. was along with the conversation that we had around early releases so for those who don't know Robin put forward a proposal to the board to have early releases included in the calendar for the remainder of the year so the Align with SAU Lee marbles the only school that does not currently have early release has built-in and that's a great Pee Dee so kind of piggybacking off Stacy said the next early release day is December 3rd so if you did use that Friday whether or not you did something Maybe maybe too soon to do something next week but you have that December 3rd which the other schools in the district have an early release or it's parent-teacher conference day but I think those earlier a couple early releases or at least aligning with the early release schedule for the rest of the year process a you I know Jeff you wanted to bring that up but I do support what Stacy said about having a couple I have Google Classroom setup but transitioning from a hybrid to Fuller email a little different from going fully on site to fully remote so a couple half-day to definitely be beneficial how could we best to this so we do it in a timely way to kick-off everybody in good shape in what is now what two weeks from today Robin support this is why because we need that time we need the time for our teams to come together with our unified Arts teachers and right now they can't possibly do that because someone has the kids at all times so we need times for a team to get together for the planning as well the scheduling so what and then I like to make sure I leave room for I can like get some I have some of the photos on the screen in front of me and Casper and I'm going to shut up until you guys are done talking and asking questions is the proposal that will get this work done not destroy our school day calendar and be at least reasonably on disruptive to the families of the students that's what is it you would most liked us with all of those factors to be able to do we need some time during either the end of this week of the very beginning of next week so if you did the 24th which is Tuesday right they would be tough because we need these materials prepared and ready for the parents to pick up on Tuesday under the 23rd half day and then you followed up on 12/3 with a half day for Days Inn 12 weeks is that Thursday or next Thursday correct or Friday that we have that day as conference day anyways so do you see if you did 3rd and 2nd 23rd being is that Monday that would stink outside of doing this Friday in I'm not advocating I'm just trying to figure this out cuz I suspect Marlboros a bit behind and having used these the early release days and I would behind early using I'm using early release but there but their come but with Google Classroom I just think it's communication job if you're going to do Friday Monday you're going to have to communicate that tomorrow so people have enough time to plan a daycare needs for the afternoon so so I Casper Mark and Edgar I'm going to stop asking questions for a while you guys go ahead Casper Stacy and I didn't see the the reply to just reply to your request are you satisfied with the two and another question that I have is if you if if the initial two full days that you wanted for Preparation I wasn't thinking about how that what you needed to convey to students and parents so do the half days work better than the two full days from your standpoint in the letter we received back from Jeff he mentioned the not basically messing with the calendar the full calendar and so we thought obviously two full days and it would be better because we do have to meet with UA teachers and we have to figure out what they're doing on our Google Classroom on Google Play how that's going to work together with with each grade level and then we have to prepare all of the materials for every single kid or whatever their remotes or or I'm sorry brother they are or paper copy to be better but in order to not disrupt the calendar because we could if we did early release days those it still count as school days towards the towards the calendar so we were thinking that perhaps we'll take whatever we can get if we can get two full days we would take it but if it's more beneficial to the families and to not to check the calendar then we'll take the two half days taking the two full days you still need some time to coordinate with to get material to the to the kids is that yeah taking the two full days without any classes would mean that we would have time to meet UA classes meeting with the each grade level classes and to prepare all the materials making copies Pocketful of work that's for some kids who are the key I need online access and also I mean even just getting the books in the kids hands and things like that how to fold a require making up and dishes to the calendar at the end of the year who is two half days is really the if we have them in close proximity it's the issue and I think I hear what you're saying Brian tonight I understand it's it's communicating with families now that they're going to have two days that are out of their normal schedule yeah but they also if you align the rest of the year with other schools in the SAU and added on the other three early release days depending on how I mean is no guarantee that we're back on worried second or whatever it may be noted ditional early release day if you add those on and I don't have the dates in front of me and I think one of them is in January that might be additional time also for if we are still in remote for teachers to continue to work on developing those plans and Gordon fighting in Doral I agree I think those additional half days would be also beneficial but I think we need at least two half days now in order to get everything together so that these kids will be successful when they switch over I mean we are all trying our best to make sure that we Google Classroom now this week and last week and this week she's been in but unfortunately we also have computer issues where we don't have enough computers for all the kids so we've been trying to shuffle computers around split everybody gets access to a computer so that we can all do that and it hasn't been it hasn't been working unfortunately Friday Monday if we can communicate that Friday Monday to early releases and then align the remainder of the year to the early release is that every other school has across the SAU because like I'll do I'll do PD work with several schools on it early release day at the same time virtually around competency-based work in the one that's always left out as Marlboro I think Jeff what what we're suggesting is Friday Monday November 20th and 23rd to have and then you'd have another early release on January 22nd 1 on March 25th and 1 on May 28th with the law and with the other schools across the SAU okay thank you Brian and Stacey that makes sense to me Mark Andrew Casper I have to say my my knee-jerk reaction all of this is the teacher should get those two full days and I may be that I'd I'm not understanding all of the scheduling issues but makes perfectly good sense to me that they would need a couple days to to get ready for the remote learning because we haven't done any of that I know from some other people what kind of heart teachers everywhere are going through and and very frankly I'm very much inclined to give them what they what they say they need and if that's too full day's again I may not understand the whole picture as far as missing days but that would seem to me to be the priority right now just as we go into a fully remote to environment we want to make sure we're completely prepared yeah right now and I'm not dismissing that Caspar I don't mean to come off that way if I if it does come off that way I think we have experienced remote last spray so it's not entirely unfamiliar but it is a transition from being fully on site I'm just leery about adding two days on to the end of the school year where at as a parent you know that that the coordination of that wasn't been enough opportunities for any kind of feedback we didn't add any days on when the state gave us the few extra days at the start of the year for planning purposes so half days don't get made up the full days will get made up where things are being changed on a weekly basis I'm and I'm inclined to say if this is what they need now this is what we give them now and and see what the future brings who knows what the schedule is going to be at the first year and I'll let you know if it if Robin has the building leader feels that that what is best for her staff I'll support Robin you know still do the the rest of the ER days in January March and may those other three but if Robin things that they need two full days we just need to make sure that we let people know that by taking these two days to prepare for motor not big transition and to make sure that their students have all the resources they need to be successful and remote it will be two additional days added to the calendar it also has budget vacations is that correct what are the implications of the school year runs two days longer than we are contracted for James Casper what the budget implication would be is that you would be adding two additional duty days to the teachers and you would you need to pay them their per diem rate for each additional day I don't have that that calculation is off the top of my head that's what it would require if you're adding two additional days to the collective bargaining agreement that were not previously negotiated where is the half-day becomes at median that does not come out and an additional expense add additional instructional days at the end of the year is what they're trying to articulate it's not my number one priority but it is a factor as I think about this and I don't want to put words and I can't cuz it won't let me get away with it but what I'm listening to Robin and Stacey I'm hearing a willingness to get this done if they can have two half days at 1/2 day isn't going to do it and 1/2 day follow I have two a week or two later isn't really the way to go either they can have two half days between now and when the kids are out and one of them not being on Tuesday at the last minute I can get the the teachers in the stack and get this done no am I putting words in your mouth or not oh there you are hello Robin want to say that we have started putting blizzard bags together for impromptu snow days why can't we have a blizzard and we have packet sent home for the kids to return to us that they have to complete an order at 4 to be a school day that's just my question no idea totally beyond my expertise I'd be stretching it Rob wouldn't it well I think it would be a stretch I mean I'm looking at it small perspectives right that the need is for additional time and you know the happy median is to get that additional time in the form of a couple of half days as opposed to adding additional funding that would not budgeted for and without having perhaps a community Revolt that two full days that my kids are no longer going to be going to school. You know I think at 8 determine what the actual balance is you know what I think what I heard Stacy say earlier is that look do you know what if we can get those half days we'll make it work, it's not ideal we would love to have more time in reality I wish we had more time to give everybody but we we really can't create additional hours in the day so it's Robin I think I think your idea is is good I just think that I don't know if we be a little bit being deceptive if we try to use a call something a blizzard bag day and we didn't have the weather to support it so if you can do a snow dance you know it snowed in the fortune you can get one of those but I don't know if that's the tack to take just looking at a compromise between what Casper saying and what we originally we're looking at with two full days and two half days what if we did Friday Friday Monday Tuesday as just half days for those three and that would give us a day and a half instead of two full days and it would give us quickly originally we were scheduled to go back after Thanksgiving correct on this is the one we love number 30 on the stand on the 30th so are we allowed to combined to combine two early release days into one all day and with the staff be able to go back on the 30th now I understand this is after the students won't be coming back I would give them a full day to prepare and I think some he said there were only two students who don't have internet so the kids will be missing just one full day and then I'm hoping somebody maybe even myself I guess as a volunteer could bring the photocopies to the the only two students who would need all these photocopies as of right now we've only gotten through a small portion so we know based on last spring that there are a lot more than two we just haven't gotten those your stats I need to resurvey again tomorrow because we're just not getting the answers from parents doing two or three days on top of already stopping them for the next month would be quite a lot and a half day doesn't seem like a lot but it's it's a full day that full day correct me if I'm wrong Rob not only be not only has to be added to the end of the year but it has a postings online do whatever the teachers put on Google classroom teachers could report to the building that day or an additional day of planning cuz kids are working off the assignments put online in the teachers are still getting a word and just treating it more like a Wednesday than a regular Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday yeah and I think I think you need to take gum some of Andrews comments a little bit more to Heart what he saying you know and in that situation you're asking them to start their remote world without any supervision or guidance I don't know that that's setting them up for future success in a remote world I think saying hey get on there Google classroom and do this on your own we're not going to be able to help you on that day because we're doing a workshop to prepare for the rest of remote I worry about that I know of I don't know maybe we're over taking this a little bit I think if we had Fridays Monday Tuesday half days we be good to launch fully on the 30th and then we start off on the 30th with the kids online teacher support with them this is not unfamiliar to them they spent three months four months in it last year of being online China we really really exactly so you're saying Friday Monday Tuesday Robin at 12:35 the 12 to 3 roughly tracks so 9 hours of additional planning time so does the disruption this is from the parents with three half-days is opposed to two whole days being changed I think no matter what you do Casper there's going to be dissension let me know but it's about trying to balance what the needs are for the staff to be able to be prepared fully on the 30th and continue with as many on-site opportunities as they can I think that this is sounding like to me you know those those hurdles that Robin Fairfield was nodding their head to for the for the younger kids are very real and you don't have any a few opportunities before they go into Thanksgiving break to the model and demonstrate how do you get onto the different platforms and sites that will be used I think we'll make it less problematic than it was when we were in the spring and we didn't have those on-site opportunities to coach kids through the coach students through that so I think no matter which way you Dice it up there's going to be some who will be like you know angry and some glue will just be sort of disturbed and there's no it's a no-win I can promise you that advantage of the trade-off Casper is the parents for some reason really like the school year going later the same parents would love it when their kids are at school hate it when their kids don't get out of school in the spring and if we go for the two full days I'll have that is an additional inconvenience is there no if they're not in school in the 23rd and 24th teachers get those two full days off is there no alternative to to getting that time back other than two full days at the end of the year Mark Mark the other alternative is going into either of February vacation I mean it seems kind of hard pressed for me to sing did anyone is making any kind of concrete plans of going anywhere in the way things are going I mean who's to say we can't predict the future here you know this was something that was throwing around last year you know why we weren't sure whether we were going back my school and you know you're throwing around whether we would be taking away some of the vacation days so if you're worried about you no contract oral issues in a financial issues at the end of the year I would say if we're going to go after taking a couple days we probably should go after February instead of Saginaw a robin use you said that Friday Monday Tuesday has half days with work so if those would work is that a motion jet that gets put forward for you guys if Robin and Stacy are not in their heads that 3/2 days would work that seems to be the best bid on the table I want to make sure that the teachers are getting what they need and if they're fine with with three half-days I'm on board with it a speaker that I am deathly I think that the three half-days would cover what we need to do and it's before we go remote so we can get the materials to the kids so I really think and it doesn't make the school year go longer it doesn't take away the vacation days which would I think be another issue lot of families cuz I think Heaven Help Us please pray that things will be better, February April so people can go on vacation but and if we take those away I think we would have more issues well I got to move them that we approve the sheriff parents will understand the three half days they know we have Marlboro have not been a part of the SAU 29 1/2 days because we know what an inconvenience it really is to the families so we've done all we can to try not to but now I'm the situation we can have three half days and still not as many half-days inconveniencing our parents as Keen has so I think that they would be understanding of that that we may avoid half-days whenever possible but now we really need these half days to make your clothes smoothly for them and for their I'm into remote so I think the three half days does that make sense is one thing that's incumbent upon the staff and by all means let the board know if the work can be helpful at all or is this an effective amazon parrots so they are informed and understand R&R as motivated as possible we were informed families immediately tomorrow if parents need daycare they can just send the kids to Sarah okay so does this even require motion or what's the what's the time so I'll move that we have we we have half days this Friday Monday and Tuesday and in the second half of the half days all of the faculty and staff will be on site to work on planning for fully remote instruction any more discussion Earth can we vote and if we vote no on this we can try something else jumper mr.
