Special Education Services
At SAU 29, our Special Education department is dedicated to providing individualized support that empowers students with diverse learning needs to achieve their full potential. Our team of highly qualified professionals works collaboratively to ensure every student receives a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) tailored to their unique strengths and challenges. This includes developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), delivering specialized instruction, and offering a range of related services. Our providers include special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, and paraeducators, all committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Making a Special Education Referral
If you suspect your child may have an educational disability that impacts their learning, you have the right to request an evaluation for special education services. We encourage families to communicate their concerns with their child's classroom teacher, school counselor, or school principal first. To formally initiate a referral, you can submit a written request to the school principal or our Special Education Department. This request should describe your concerns about your child's learning and why you believe an evaluation is needed. Once a referral is made, the school will follow a structured process to determine if an evaluation is warranted and, if so, proceed with assessing your child's educational needs.
