Our goal at Keene Food Services is to serve healthy and fun meals to our students, while exceeding the State and Federal nutritional guidelines to enable every student to reach their full potential.
2023-2024 Supply Chain and Distribution Challenges:
SAU 29 schools would like to make you aware of some challenges that may impact our posted breakfast and lunch menus.
Supply chain and delivery driver shortages are affecting the food industry across the country and our schools are not exempt from challenges. We will continue to provide healthy breakfasts and lunches to the students in SAU 29, however, we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of the posted menu. Due to menu items that are schedule to be on the menu arriving late or in some cases not at all, we may need to make last minute menu changes and product substitutions based on what is available to us. We do have enough food in inventory to ensure breakfast and lunch will continue to be served to students.
Keene Food Services will continue to provide meals to our students through these supply chain and distribution disruptions. We ask for patience and understanding if last-minute changes must be made to the menu. Each student will continue to receive one breakfast and one lunch free through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the remainder of the school year.

SAU 29 school cafeterias are meeting and exceeding new strict federal nutrition standards for school meals, ensuring that meals are healthy and well-balanced, portion controlled and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school.
School meals offer students 1% or fat free milk, a large variety of fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains, and they must meet strict limits on saturated fat and portion size. School lunches must also meet additional standards requiring:

- Larger servings of vegetables and fruits
(students must take at least one serving of produce at both breakfast and lunch)
A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes - Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free)
- Whole grains rich foods
- Reduced sodium levels

If you do not wish your child to be able to make purchases through the food service program, please send a letter stating that to the Keene Food Services office. Keene Food Service is self-funded and receives no local tax dollars other than utilities. Funds from the State and Federal Government are received through meal reimbursement and the Government Food Surplus Program.

Important Procedure at the Elementary Level
Any student owing $(25.00) or more, purchasing hot lunch, will have to take a choice of sandwich as their entrée. They will not be allowed to take the main entrée listed on the menu.
We encourage you to talk with your children and explain what will be happening if they have an outstanding balance. If you have a large balance and would like to set up a payment plan, we would be happy to speak with you.
We will continue to send home the balance notifications on a weekly basis with the students, but know that they do not always make it to the parents. We do make phone calls and send letters home via regular mail for the larger balances as well. You may always call the school cafeteria to check on your child’s balance.
