Lisa K. Henkel Award for Excellence in Inclusion

The Lisa K. Henkel Award for Excellence in Inclusion is awarded to an SAU29 general education classroom teacher, or a teaching team that includes at least one general education classroom teacher, who show particular dedication to inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education curriculum and instruction, and within their general education classroom.
The finalist will demonstrate mastery of the selection factors below, which are based on the "Essential Best Practices in Inclusive Schools" by the UNH Institute on Disability. Previous recipients will be ineligible for three years following their last award.
This award, created by Alex Henkel and Heather Y. Bell, in memory of Alex's sister, Lisa K. Henkel, who adapted learning materials to accommodate blind students in music, mathematics, science, foreign language and any other area where students wished to fully participate.
