The plaque installation for the 2018 Keene High School (KHS) Outstanding Educator, Katelyn Schmidt, took place on December 20. Schmidt received the honor this past June during the last assembly of the year at KHS. As part of this distinction, given by the KHS Alumni Fund, each recipient receives an engraved crystal bowl and a financial award.
Schmidt has been teaching World Languages (Spanish) at KHS for over ten years.
Ms. Schmidt’s students say about her: “Ms. Schmidt’s passion for teaching and the language makes the class so different than any other […] Her personality shines through her teaching and she makes it fun to learn. She relates to the kids and makes her classroom a safe environment for everyone. She […] knows how to engage kids with different games and ways where you don’t even realize you’re learning.”
“I’m very honored to be recognized,” stated Schmidt. “It’s a very humbling experience. I always look forward to spending time with my students. I love to connect with them, to get to know them, and to get them out of their seats by incorporating music and culture into my lessons. I’d like to thank the award committee and my coworkers at KHS, who inspire me every day.”
