SAU 29 Announces Administrative Changes for 2021-2022 School Year

Nicole Gordon has been selected as the Interim Principal of Nelson School effective January 3, 2022.

Gordon first joined SAU 29 in 2015 as a Language Arts Teacher at Chesterfield School where she also completed her internship in School Administration. Prior to joining SAU 29, Mrs. Gordon taught secondary English at Belchertown High School (MA). Gordon completed her Post Masters Certificate in Education – Educational Leadership from Keene State College. Prior to rejoining SAU 29, Gordon served as the Assistant Principal at Stevens High School in Claremont, NH.

“My first few weeks in Nelson have been an incredible experience. I am loving getting to know the students, teachers, families, and Nelson School community and hope to continue my work here for a long time to come,” said Gordon.

Ms. Gordon replaces Kelsey Kilburn who previously served as Principal/Curriculum Integration Specialist for the Nelson School.

Kate Shanks, current Principal/Instructional Coach of the Harrisville-Wells Memorial School, will join the SAU 29 Central Office staff as the Special Education Administrator for the Town School Districts effective February 28, 2022.

In her new role, Shanks will be responsible for coordinating all special education programs within the town school districts of SAU 29 (Chesterfield, Harrisville, Marlborough, Marlow, Nelson and Westmoreland).

Shanks first joined SAU 29 in 2008 as a paraprofessional at Chesterfield School. She began her career as a special education teacher in 2010 serving first Chesterfield School and then Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Keene. Prior to joining Harrisville-Wells Memorial in 2018, Shanks also served as the Behavior Interventionist at the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School as well as an adjunct faculty member at Keene State College. Shanks completed her undergraduate work at Granite State College and holds a Masters of Education – Special Education from Keene State College. She earned her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in 2018 from University of New England.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to advocate for an inclusive, appropriate, and collaborative education for students with disabilities. I look forward to working with our students, families, and SAU 29 staff to meet the unique needs of all our students,” said Shanks.

Ms. Shanks replaces Liz Dunn who served in the role since 2013.

The Harrisville School Board has appointed Gina Chace to replace Ms. Shanks as Interim Principal/Instructional Coach of Harrisville-Wells Memorial School effective February 28, 2022 through the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Most recently, Ms. Chace served as long-term Assistant Principal substitute at Keene High School. Chace previously served as Assistant Clinical Professor at Keene State College. Her background includes classroom teaching experience at Monadnock Regional Middle-High School and at Bristol Eastern High School (CT). Ms. Chace holds a Master of Art- Secondary Science Education from St. Joseph University (CT) and is completing her doctorate in Education – Leadership, Learning & Community through Plymouth State University.
