Tuesday, 7/13/2021 - SAU29 COVID-19 Update

July 13

Good Afternoon,

I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer despite the much needed rain we have been getting lately.  It’s always been a welcome time of year for many if not most folks.

I want to thank everyone that provided their feedback and input on the draft opening plan.  All of that input is being reviewed and considered as we work on finalizing the opening plan for next school year.  It is important to note that in the Better Than Normal plan, we shared a couple of weeks back, it is stated that we will follow guidance from the State of New Hampshire and our health officials.   I mention this for a couple of reasons.

First, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) makes recommendations on a large scale that includes all states, territories and tribes in the United States.  One of their key recommendations is to follow your local health officials guidance as they are responding to what is happening (or not happening) on a smaller scale.  They offer that because oftentimes local health officials guidance varies from the broader CDC guidance as circumstances may differ in the various parts of the country.  Likewise, states may also differentiate their guidance for different regions within the state.

The other thing I want to share is in regard to vaccinations and mask wearing.  The New Hampshire Department of Education issued this technical advisory in June regarding this matter linked for your review if you’d like.  In short, schools and/or districts CAN NOT require COVID-19 vaccines.  Nor can schools and/or districts require masks for those that have not been vaccinated.  If that guidance changes, we are committed to responding accordingly.

And with that, I would like to shift gears and welcome Dr. Ben White to our SAU 29 team.  Dr. White joins us as an Assistant Superintendent with the task of filling the shoes of Dotty Frazier who has served our students so well throughout the entire SAU.  I could write several pages on all that Mrs. Frazier has done and meant to our schools, students, families, and staff, but I will simply wish her all the best in her newest chapter and say THANK YOU Dotty!

Dr. White has hit the ground running and will continue to support our efforts throughout the SAU.  Please join me in welcoming Dr. White and extending that community spirit that makes all of our towns such wonderful places to live.  We’re glad to have Dr. White aboard and look forward to his involvement and engagement as we shift back to Better Than Normal!

Be Well,

Robb
