Phones are available to students at Keene Middle School. To use them during the day, a student only needs permission from a teacher, or they may use the grade office phone between classes or at lunch time. Each office has a phone available for student use. However, we encourage students to make plans with parents ahead of time rather than wait until the close of school. when phone use is at its peak.
Individual cell phones are required to be turned off and stored in the student’s
locker during school hours.
If a student loses money or personal articles, they should immediately notify their teachers and/or grade office. Students should also check their immediate classrooms, the cubby's in the cafeteria, and the "lost and found" located the main office. Students should not bring large sums of money or valuable items to school.
BackHelmets are required by anyone riding a bicycle, skateboard or roller blades.
BackStudents are expected to dress in clothes, which are suitable for school activities. The responsibility for determining what students are wearing rests with the parents. It is our assumption that the clothing a child arrives at school wearing is the clothing that his or her parent wishes the child to wear that day. Clothing which advertises or demonstrates the use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco products or images or writing which is offensive to others is not allowed. Skirts and shorts must be long enough to reach the tip of extended arms and fingers when standing. Some types of shorts, however, are not allowed and these would include boxers, spandex, short-shorts, gym shorts, and bathing suits. Tank tops, single shouldered tank tops/shirts are prohibited. Based upon the cold and unpredictable weather in our area the principal will announce when students can no longer wear shorts as a matter of safety. This ban will continue until conditions improve in the spring. During this ban, girls who wear dresses must have their legs covered. Other improper dress would include pajamas, undergarments or parts of undergarments visible, mid-drift exposure, as well as, any exposure of body parts considered distracting from the educational process. In addition, for safety reasons, roller shoes, sandals, (unless they have enclosed toes and straps) clogs, platforms or high heels are not allowed. If your child has appropriate clothing with them, they may change at school, otherwise they will be asked to contact a parent. The assistant principal for each grade will make decisions on clothing, which is thought to be questionable.
