Chesterfield, NH


According to the United States Census Bureau (2000), Chesterfield, a small town located in the southwestern corner of New Hampshire, is home to more than 3,542 citizens, living in 1,366 households.

The town comprises a total area of 47.6 square miles and is bounded on the west by the Connecticut River, with the highest point of the town resting on its southern border, atop Davis Hill (1,427 feet above sea level).

Chesterfield is nestled on a beautiful countryside that includes the village of Spofford, Chesterfield Gorge, the Wantastiquet Mountain State Forest and portions of Pisgah State Park.

Chesterfield School is the largest elementary school in SAU 29 and maintains a current enrollment of 328 students in grades K-8 who reside in Chesterfield, Spofford and West Chesterfield. Students in grades 9-12 attend Keene High School.

The district employs a total of 70 professional and support staff who are responsible for implementing a wide range of instructional/support programs and services in all major subject areas, Spanish in grades
K-8, middle school health and unified arts (art, music, and physical education).

Special Education and Title I reading support services are also provided for identified/eligible students.

In addition, the school employs a full-time reading specialist. A wide range of co-curricular/special programs are also available to students in selected grades.
