Volunteer Opportunities

Classroom Participation: The first place to start in your school involvement is with your child’s teacher and classroom. Each classroom has many ideas where parental help is needed. Often, work can be done in the evenings at home, so everyone can get involved in some way. Classroom needs may be one-time activities such as donating supplies for a party, teaching a special skill, or chaperoning a field trip. Recurring needs might be helping with projects, typing, copying, or creating bulletin boards. Many teachers welcome an hour of your time each week in clerical help or in working with small groups of children.

Specials Programs: Our “specials” teachers (Art, Technology, Library, Music, and Physical Education) need volunteers on both a one-time and regular basis. The library is always looking for help in shelving and repairing books, help during open library times, and yearly inventory. Art classes need help in preparing materials and assistance during classes. Computer classes also find assistance helpful. Music and Physical Education have several one-time programs that call for volunteers. These classes rarely require special talents, but look for someone willing to learn and share time with the children.

Lunch: Parents are welcome to join their children for lunch in the Cafeteria. Adult lunches cost $2.90.

Mentor Program: We have a program to welcome new families who move into our community. Families who volunteer to be mentors will be matched with a new family to offer friendship and information.

PTA: Westmoreland PTA organizes many activities taking place in the evenings and during school hours. PTA meetings are on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 P.M. Notices are sent out requesting volunteers on a regular basis. PTA Page

All-School Volunteer: In the office, we have a bin that the teachers can put work in (cutting, photo copying, etc.) You can stop at the office on a certain day or your choice and check the box. Training is required for this volunteering position.

Laminator: This volunteer position will be done after school (2:30 or later). This person will be in charge of laminating and cutting out projects. Training is required for this volunteering position.
