A Message from Kim Keating, School Secretary

When your child is going to absent or late, please call Nelson School at 847-3408 first thing in the morning. If we do not answer, please make certain that you leave a message on the answering machine stating whether your child be will absent or late. We are concerned about your child’s welfare and want to be sure your child is safe.If they are absent without notice, I will be calling your home, work number, and other numbers on your child’s registration form to determine the whereabouts of your child.

Nelson’s School day begins at 8 a.m. or with the arrival of the first bus. Since we do not provide early morning supervision, should you arrive earlier, it will be your responsibility to stay with your child until the first bus arrives at which time they may enter the building. Due to security issues, the main doors will be locked once all children have arrived.

The first class of the morning begins at 8:15. Please make every effort to make certain your child arrives on time. Tardiness can be unsettling to your child and disruptive to your child’s class. When your child is tardy, they miss the morning rituals that help them to have a success day.

In our efforts to provide a safe, secure environment for you and your child, we ask that all visitors sign in. The sign in sheet is on the round table in the foyer. Once you have done this, please press the button on the doorframe and you will be buzzed into the building.

School lunch and snack drinks need to be ordered and paid for at the beginning of each month. Since lunches are ordered ahead of time and delivered to us through Keene Food Service each morning, we don’t receive extras. Please make certain that your checks be made payable to “Keene Food Service”.

After school activities require a permission slip in order for your child to participate. If it is an on-going weekly activity, you may send me a note at the beginning of the year that gives permission for the entire year.

Any change in transportation home requires a note or phone call from you by 2:15 p.m. If you don’t send in a note or call, your child will sent home by their usual mode of transportation even if they insist they are supposed to be going/doing something else.

If your child is in band and you signed a slip stating that your child should be kept here on the day that band meets, we will honor your original request and not send them home on the bus if they have forgotten their instrument unless we hear from you otherwise.

Ample time at the end of the day is given for your child to pack up their belongings and get on the bus. Should your child dawdle and miss the bus, it will be your responsibility to pick up your child. It will not be the responsibility of the school to provide transportation home.
