Title I is a federally funded program which provides extra help to children who may benefit from additional support. In the Nelson School, Title I provides supplemental instruction in both language arts and mathematics to children in grades K-6. Instruction may be provided in the regular classroom or in a separate setting for one-on-one tutorials.
Classroom teachers refer students to the program. All students are now assessed using the NWEA computer adaptive test. The test is used to determine eligibility and to show growth for students in the Title I program. The length of time in Title I depends ona child's needs and progress. One of our goals is to see improvement in self-confidence as wel as academic skills.
