Physical education classes are an
opportunity for students to develop physical skills and healthy habits that
will last a life time. Classes will include basic skills, fitness activities,
and cooperative games. The structure of each lesson will include a warm up
activity, core instruction, and a closing activity or game. Our overarching
goal is to learn new skills in a safe and fund environment.
The curriculum for the primary grades will focus on the introduction of basic
skills and low organizational games. In third grade we will begin to introduce
more cooperative and team building games that involve strategies. The
intermediate grades will continue to reinforce basic skills through
cooperative and competitive games, focusing on strategies and problem solving.
The following are the highlights of the K-6 physical education curriculum:
locomotor/non-locomotor skills, manipulative skills, cooperative games, team
skills, gymnastics/tumbling, fitness and health, and dance/rhythms.
