Wells Memorial School

A Monadnock Region Public School of Choice Site

Wells Memorial School is located in a rural location in Harrisville, just 1.2 miles from Route 101 and 9 miles from Central Square in Keene. With a student population of 51 students, K through 6th grades, our 4 classrooms have terrific student/teacher ratios. We have strong ties with both the community and the families of students. In addition to an active PTA, we have ongoing participation of community members in committees, volunteer efforts, and evening/weekend programs.

Our staff strives to blend academics with support in the areas of social and emotional growth, character development, and physical development. We are a Responsive Classroom school, and offer daily morning meetings, and active student involvement in creating classroom rules and logical consequences. Our academic programs include: 60 minutes daily of math instruction using Everyday Mathematics; 90 minutes daily of language arts instruction which includes individual diagnosis of needs; progress monitoring; and programs which cover phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, and reading comprehension; integrated science and social studies themes using resources such as the Harris Center; and Spanish instruction four times a week.

Other program offerings include: fine arts; physical education; library and guidance services; New Hampshire Dance Institute for grades 4th-6th; and for 6th graders, a week long environ-mental/personal challenge experience at a camp (fees covered by the school). Optional activities are: before and after school care (on a fee basis); after school clubs including chess, homework support, and student council; individual instrumental lessons (on a fee basis), and band.

Parents and students interested in joining our team are more than welcome to complete an application, and visit us.
