The kindergarten curriculum draws on varied programs to present a healthy, happy,
and exciting environment for a child's first school experience.
Using a theme approach, children explore a topic with stories and songs, puppets,
art activities problem solving and hands on learning. Children are encouraged
to bring resources from home to add to the classrooms’ museums.
Kindergartners will enjoy meeting the bright, lovable characters from Letter
People Land who will introduce them to letter symbols and sounds. Children cannot
resist munching Mr. M's marshmallows or pasting Ms. P's popping pointy patches.
Relying heavily upon manipulatives, Kindergartners use concrete experiences
to help them formulate early math concepts. Zero the Hero comes to visit every
10 days. He brings a counting story, poem or song and a 0 shaped snack. His
job as place holder is recognized by all.
Children learn chants, songs and poems to enhance the literacy program, utilizing
charts, big books, and class-generated books. As extensions to Whole Language
lessons, children are involved in many varied types of activities such as cooking,
art activities, and writing.
To keep parents informed, three conferences are held throughout the year. Parents
are encouraged to visit and volunteer to work in the Kindergarten.
