EXTENDED EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES AT FULLER |
| Keene School District Statement of Philosophy: Education for giftedness is an on-going process through which we recognize and nurture each student's potential. Effective programming expands and enhances learning opportunities, creating an environment in which deliberate efforts are made to be responsive to emerging strengths, talents, and interests of individual students. The regular school curriculum provides the foundation upon which many activities and options are built. All staff members work together to plan and implement programs for each student. Identification of Gifted and Talented Students: We believe that all of our students have gifts and talents. Identification is a process which allows gifts and talents to emerge. The foundation of the process is the existing curriculum which offers all students a variety of programs. From that foundation, many students will surface who will benefit from supplemental activities. Continuing the process, some students will then need alternative opportunities. Ultimately, a few students will require highly individualized services. Rather than labeling some individuals as "gifted", we believe identification should be positive, dynamic, flexible, inclusive, and ongoing. Effective planning is concerned with extending or enhancing learning opportunities for all students. Developing and fulfilling students' strengths and talents is not accomplished through a single fixed program, but through a variety of opportunities. Thus, we strive towards a well-rounded student by meeting students' individual needs and nurturing excellence. This is accomplished through: individualizing basic instruction; enrichment opportunities for appropriate acceleration; and activities which promote independence and self-direction, personal growth, and social development.
