Why Build New?

The first question on the March 11, 2008 ballot for voters to consider was a request by the Keene Board of Education to issue a $1 million bond to pay for complete architectural drawings and technical specifications for construction of a new middle school on district-owned Maple Avenue property adjacent to Jonathan Daniels Elementary School. While the bond received 1,546 votes in favor with 1,069 against, the 59.1% support was just shy of the 60% super majority vote needed to win approval. The Keene Board of Education subsequently voted on March 13, 2008, to continue to support a new middle school and to take the request back to the voters in March of 2009.
