Meeting Minutes for November 5, 2007

Secretary's Report: Minutes from the October 8, 2007 meeting were reviewed and accepted.

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer's Report was reviewed and accepted.

Principal's Report:
Mrs. Zurick-Thompson is organizing a JD clothing drive for children in Afghanistan. This drive is part of the larger project "Keene Kids Share The Warmth". Donations of clothing items in good clean condition may be dropped off at school until November 20th. Boxes and shipping supplies are needed. Anyone wishing to help sort donations should contact Juli Drouin.
Teachers and staff successfully implemented an emergency plan during the recent TD Banknorth robbery. Students remained inside during recess without incident.

Review:
The October Movie Night was enjoyed by many and student behavior was positive. Concession volunteers to organize selling of food items. Sherrie Paltrineri to order additional popcorn.
Die cuts have arrived and are appreciated by teachers and staff. Sue LeClair and Bonnie Day will be putting up a storage rack. JDA to consider purchasing larger die cuts in the future.
The JD Jaguars received the most votes from students and is now our school mascot.

Committee Reports/Updates:
Turkey Trot: The fitness challenge is underway and students seem excited to participate. Individual tally sheets should be kept in Home/School folders. Volunteers will collect minutes on Monday and Thursday, so progress can be announced on Wednesday and Friday. Miss Meyer has been offering turkey trot trivia via school announcements. Classroom teachers to distribute turkey charms, Plymouth Plantation brochures and certificates of participation to students. Closing celebration to take place during the Thanksgiving Feast with a drawing for a 4-pack of passes to Plymouth Plantation. Anyone with questions should contact Carrie Stewart or Leo Echavarria.

Fall Fundraiser: Several orders need to be picked up by parents.

Craft Fair: December 1st 8:30am - 2:00pm. Returning vendors have filled all 50 spaces. A notice will be sent home asking for donations and volunteers for the JDA raffle table. Vendors will also be asked to provide an item to donate. Permit number to be displayed on raffle table. 5th Graders to run concesssion stand with proceeds going towards Ecology Camp. Kathy Lehrman and Becky Russell to make publicity flyers for schools and local businesses. Advertising to take place through WKNE, Hope Radio, Keene Sentinel, Monadnock Shopper and perhaps Cheshire Craftsman. Set-up scheduled for November 30th 6:00pm - 8:00pm.  Kathy Lehrman to contact Fuller School PTA president to ask to borrow tables. Patty Yoerger will contact school maintenance to arrange transportation. JDA voted to give $50 gift cards to Sue LeClair and Bonnie Day for their assistance. Donuts and coffee to be donated for vendors. The family of a previous vendor who recently passed away will continue with the craft fair in her honor. The JDA voted to waive the vendor fee and to purchase flowers out of respect for this family.

Spirit Wear: Order forms have been sent home and need to be returned to school by November 16th. Reminder notice to be sent. The JDA voted to use proceeds from the November Movie Night to purchase Spirit Wear T-shirts for the holiday baskets.

School Volunteers: Juli Drouin will contact teachers to determine needs and will coordinate volunteers accordingly.

Pop Culture Workshop: Due to scheduling conflicts, this workshop will take place after the new year. More information to follow.

Playground Safety: The Yellow Unit monkey bars have been lowered for safety reasons. Sand on the playgrounds is at the required depth. To purchase bark mulch for the Yellow Unit playground would cost $5,360 which is more than our budget allows.

New Business:
Movie Night is scheduled for November 16th and will feature Shrek III (rated PG). Hot dogs, water, popcorn and baked goods (Green Unit staff) will be offered starting at 6:00pm with the movie beginning at 6:30pm.

Thanksgiving Feast is scheduled for November 14th. Tracy Summers to discuss serving arrangements with Kim Chickering. 20 individuals have volunteered to help and should arrive at 11:00am for set-up.

JDA voted to purchase Lysol wipes for all classrooms.

With nothing further, this meeting was adjourned. Next meeting is scheduled for December 10, 2007 at 6:15pm.
