We—and
most New Hampshire GED test centers—require the Practice
GED (or Pre-test) as
a prerequisite for the Official GED.
Since
the passing percentage in New Hampshire is 81.7%, exceeding
the US average of 68.7%, it is felt that this requirement
enhances preparation and success for New Hampshire's
GED candidates.
Our
goal is to help each GED candidate succeed and pass the GED.
Keene Community
Education can help. If
you know someone who needs to pass the GED, you can encourage
that person to get started.
GED
tests are highly dependent upon reading comprehension, solving
math problems, and interpreting charts, graphs and other pictorial
representations (such as editorial cartoons). A hand-written
essay is also required. If you are unsure of your reading
or problem-solving skills, if you are not confident in your ability
to understand and interpret information, or if you need to brush
up on sentence and paragraph structure, spelling and punctuation,
you are encouraged to request a free assessment and GED
preparation recommendations.

Delaney at (603) 357-9041 to set up an appointment.

The Official GED Test Battery consists of five topic tests:
1.
Math —
Part
I with calculator, Part II without calculator.
2.
Writing —
Multiple
choice and hand-written, 1 to 2-page essay.
3.
Science —
Science,
Social Studies and Reading are all Multiple Choice
tests.
4.
Social Studies —
5.
Reading —
A minimum passing score of
410 must be achieved for any single test. Any test
with a score below 410 must be retaken. The maximum score
(no errors) for each test is 800.
A total point accumulation
of at least 2250, or an average of 450 for all five tests,
must be achieved in order to pass the GED. Even
if all test scores are considered passing (over 410), it may be
necessary to retest in one or two topics to increase the point
accumulation to a minimum of 2250 total points.
Candidates may take one test
at a time.
If a candidate wishes to test one-at-a-time,
that choice must be made clear at pre-registration.
The full registration fee is payable and will remain valid for
continuing with other tests for up to one year after registration.
Passing scores for a partial GED
Test Battery will be maintained until the next GED test publication
is implemented as scheduled, January 1, 2012. That
means that any incomplete GED tests must be finished with passing
scores and point accumulation before December 31, 2011.
NOTE: Any partial
or failing GED Test Battery that is not finished and passed
before publication of the next test series (January 1, 2012)
will become invalid, and those candidates will need to start
the GED test battery over.
Testing dates may be changed.
Test schedules follow; however,
it is possible that a test will be cancelled due to low enrollment
or extremely bad weather. Registered candidates will be
notified and placed into the following month registration.
The Practice GED
— Pre-test
The Practice
GED—a pre-requisite for the Official GED—is conducted
on Mondays (one 3-hour session only), once a month, starting August 25, 2008.
Tests include:
Math — Part I (with
calculator) & Part II (without calculator).
Writing — Multiple
choice & hand–written essay.
Science — Multiple
choice.
The passing score
for each of the three Practice tests (Pre-test) is 450, which
demonstrates potential for success on the Official GED.
Upon completion of the Pre-test, candidates will be advised regarding
readiness for the Official GED or need for GED preparation classes
or tutorials. If Pre-test scores are below passing, recommendation
will be made for interview and free assessment by an adult education
counselor in advance of placement into a free GED prep class or
tutorial.

RESULTS:
Transcripts
and Official GED Certificate
A successful GED test results
in an official GED Certificate, not diploma, considered
by most colleges and employers to be equivalent recognition
of learning to that of high school completion. Higher
GED scores (above 600) reflect higher secondary learning
and achievement.
Test
results and one free unofficial transcript will be
sent by mail approximately two weeks after testing.
If an official transcript is required
for college admission or employment application, a letter—or
Release of Records form (available
for download)—and $5 (check payable to Keene
School District) for each transcript requested.
The request and payment may be mailed or brought directly
to the Keene Community Education office at 438 Washington
St., Keene, NH 03431. Clearly indicate name—and
any other name under which the GED test may have been taken,
such as maiden name. Provide current address, telephone
number, date of birth and the complete address
to which each official transcript must be sent.
NOTE: An
official transcript can be sent
only directly from the GED Testing Center to an
academic or employment recipient or another GED Testing
Center.
Upon
successful completion of the Official GED Test Battery, the
NH GED Certificate will be issued from the State of New Hampshire
GED Administrator, usually within a month.
Potential
benefits to you after achieving GED success include:
»
Access to higher education, such as college or job
training.
